GREL@IST
Geospatial Research and Education Lab (GREL) has been established at Department of Space Science, Institute of Space Technology (IST) with the vision of doing quality research and imparting state of the art education in the emerging fields of Geographic Information Science (GISc) and Remote Sensing (RS).
Our aim is to to attain an international reputation as a center of excellence in GISc, RS and integrated technologies. GREL is the first OSGeo lab in Pakistan having objectives;
- To engage in geospatial research, education and development using Free and Open Source Software for Geoinformatics (FOSS4G) and contributing actively to the development of open source software tools, standards and data through research and innovation.
- To establish international linkages for collaborative research, education and training. To offer both degree (undergraduate, graduate) and certificate courses in GISc, RS and associated fields.
- To ensure sustainable growth and expansion by acquiring national and international funding for short term and long term real world projects that impact society.
- To bridge the gap between academia, industry, government and nongovernment organizations for collaborative research and development, providing internship and job opportunities for students, and encouraging entrepreneurship through commercially exploitable research and development.
