Dr. Mujtaba obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Sargodha. He obtained his master degrees in Meteorology from the COMSATS University Islamabad and his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Tsinghua University Beijing China. His doctoral dissertation was focused on the sensitivity experiments with different convection/land surface parameterization in the ICTP regional climate model (RegCM) and multi-years’ simulations for present and future projections under different climate change scenarios with much focus on the South Asian summer monsoon variability. He also worked on climate change impact assessment on water resources in the northwestern Upper Indus Basin.
His research is focused on the analysis, interpretation and projections of extreme hydro-meteorological events based on satellite remote sensing, ground observation, high resolution reanalysis and future projections (CMIP6). It also includes the evaluation of snow covered high-latitude hydrological cycle elements and identification of the causes of uncertainties i.e. the feedback processes and model bias effects on simulated changes.
