Analysis, strategy and policy development for REDD in Pakistan. The objective of the
proposed project was to build Pakistan’s capacity and obtain results in targeted research thatwill enable Pakistan to effectively assess carbon in all pools and measure changes and leakages. Capacity building in this area would enable local institutions to actively participate preparing Readiness Project Idea Notes (R-PINs) which is designed to assess the country’s readiness toreduce emissions from deforestation and degradation.
Monitoring Billion Tree Tsunami plantation activities in Khyber Pakhtukhwa Province of Pakistan. This project was fully funded by Govt. of KP designed to monitor the activities of plantingbillion trees in the areas through remote sensing satellite data sets and fixed point photography.
Improving Livelihoods of Fisher Communities of Central Indus Wetlands Complex, Pakistan.UKAid funded this project aimed to enhance the living standard and livelihood of fishermencommunity in this large area, by providing the alternate ources of livelihood and necessity measuresfor protection during flood season. GIS had been used as a major database assessment building toolin this.
GIS based boundary delineation of highly encroached forest sections in Murree Forest Division. The Lahore High Court (LHC) took Sou Motu action against the encroachers of the areaand order WWF GIS team to assist them in taking decision by conducting GIS study on highresolution satellite image. The project was partially funded by Govt. of Pakistan. DGPS, Totalstation and aerial photographs were used during the assessment and development of ATLAS which was presented to LHC. LHC ordered to stop single tree in the area by retrieving the encroached land even if it was a single house and appreciated the efforts of GIS team.
Improving sub-watershed management and environmental awareness in Ayubia National Park (G200-Western Himalayas). The project aimed to improve the livlihhod of the region by proposing effective use of SPRING, check Dams etc.
National Forest Cover Assessment. A comprehensive project of identifying the total forest cover in the region for conducting REDD+ studies. The output of this project was used to select and highlight the areas with deforestation and degradation. This was conducted in close collaboration with ICIMOD, Nepal and Ministry of Climate Change, Govt. of Pakistan.
Delta Wide Hazard Mapping Study – A Case Study of Keti Bunder, Kharo Chann and Jewani, Pakistan. This study was majorly focused on the coastal communities residing in the areas where there was high density of mangroves forest. This is the part Climate change Adaptation Project, which was done by incorporating the Climate change factors/elements.
Indus for All Programme. GIS/RS component of Indus for All Programme which was the first phase of 50- year Indus Ecoregion Programme, assessments were done at macro (1:250,000), meso (1:50,000) and micro (1:10,000) levels. High resolution satellite data, intensive field work was involved in this project. Decision Support System (DSS) has been developed for the planning and decision making.
