Python has become the Lingua Franca for scientific calculation, data analysis and visualization. Being an open source language, with extensive libraries across a variety of disciplines makes it a hot favorite programming language for scientists and engineers. Geospatial data handling and analysis also becomes very easy using python libraries. This workshop will focus towards the basics of python. The participants will learn python coding for data reading and ingestion, analysis, and visualization. Salient features of quantitative analysis, geospatial analysis, and remote sensing will be covered.
- Instructor: Muhammad Toqeer
This workshop is focused on data analysis techniques for datasets related to earth sciences, remote sensing, & geographical information science. A variety of traditional and modern quantitative mathematical / statistical methods for data analysis will be discussed and applied, such as confidence intervals for statistical estimates, statistical hypothesis testing, correlation and regression, time-series analysis through Fourier transforms, auto-spectra and cross-spectra, plotting and analyzing directional data, data filtering methods, PCA, and introductory image processing in MATLAB. The workshop is based on extensive hands-on use of MATLAB as a programming and data analysis tool, and therefore requires previous basic-level expertise over MATLAB or at least another programming language.
